Will it hurt?
Acupuncture needles are very fine and much thinner than an injection needle. Therefore a competent practitioner should achieve practically painless needle insertion. Once the needle is inserted some people experience a temporary feeling of tingling, heaviness, heat or pressure. This is a desirable effect. Most people find acupuncture relaxing and fall asleep during treatment.

Is it safe?
Only single-use sterile disposable needles are used. This is in compliance with the British Acupuncture Council’s Code of Safe Practice which lays out stringent standards relating to the hygiene of both practice and equipment.

How many treatments will I need?
This varies depending on the condition but most people notice changes after four to six treatments. Treatment progress will be reviewed regularly and clear aims set out at the beginning of treatment.

What will it cost?

Initial consultation, diagnosis and treatment

£45 (Approx an hour and a half)

Follow up treatment

£35 (Approx 45 minutes)

How should I prepare for treatment?
Wear loose clothing enabling easy access to the arms and legs. Some other body points may be used and a gown will be provided. Eat a light meal prior to treatment as it is best to avoid an empty stomach whilst having acupuncture.

What to expect following treatment?
The response to acupuncture varies from one person to another. As well as relief from a particular condition, people notice other benefits such as increased energy levels and an enhanced sense of well-being.

As you may feel tired following treatment, it is recommended that you avoid heavy exertion, large meals or hot baths for the rest of the day. The avoidance of alcohol and other recreational drugs is strongly advised before and after treatment.

What does a treatment involve?
Following an in-depth consultation and diagnosis gained at the initial consultation, each treatment begins with a further discussion on how treatment is progressing. A pulse and tongue diagnosis is carried out. Other techniques such as palpation of tender or painful areas also direct my selection of points to be used in the treatment. Needles are usually inserted for about 20 minutes whereas others are inserted and removed immediately.Following the removal of the needles the pulses are read again to ascertain the response to the treatment.
